Breath Therapy

A healing art based upon Eastern philosophies and Western methods, breath therapy presents a different path to mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing. Developed in the last 20 years it is believed to be effective in treating all psychosomatic illnesses. Two central ideas are cited.

  1. That the average person doesn’t breath fully, settling for a defective normal range. This range has been inhibited by numerous conditions and events as well as cultural dictates. Therefore, every individual needs to have their breathing system repaired for it to function at a full level, as nature intended.

  2. When proper breathing is restored the body will work better. Breath itself will help promote natural healing and renewal in the body, spirit and mind, becoming a therapeutic tool that encourages growth, change and further healing.

There are specific techniques which need to be taught in order to achieve the desired results. Practitioners evaluate their patient’s breathing patterns in order to repair defects and inhibitions that have developed over a lifetime of poor breathing habits.

Among the goals of breath therapy are improved breathing, increased relaxation and a better mind/body/spirit connection. Some exercises are designed to control energy or release it more effectively while others are geared to expand internal awareness.

Five aspects are considered essential in the practice of breath therapy; technique, atmosphere, teacher, the mind and the mystical something else. When all five aspects are aligned, the best results can be expected.

Training takes place over several days and is available in various locations and through various schools.
